Back to Lexington – April 2019

The first week of April 2019 we went back to Lexington to visit Spendthrift Farm,  WinStar Farm and visit our ole buddy ‘American Pharoah’ at Ashford Stud.   While there we caught one of the races at Keeneland and took in some bourbon touring and tasting at Buffalo Trace.

Our trip began at Franklin College in Franklin, Indiana to watch a friends daughter play Lacross.   We didn’t say we were coming so it was a surprise.  It was good to see her and her Dad.

Our 1st stop in Lexington is Spendthrift Farm.  DSC03119

They brought out GoldenCents and talked about their new Safe-bet program.  While there we were able to see their breeding program.  It’s too bad that they cannot show what those guys go through in the breeding shed.  That is definitely one of the toughest jobs we’ve ever seen.   Let’s just say horses have minds of their own.  These stallions are not machines.

Our visit to WinStar Farms is next.   As you can see from the pictures below, the fella’s like to show-off for the fans.   But you must look but don’t touch.  They have a little game called nip-the-tourists for those silly enough to not listen to the guide.

Next we went back to Ashford Stud.   We were there in 2015 right after American Pharoah came to stud there.   Our buddy AP came out to greet us.  So did their newest Triple Crown stud ‘Justify’.   AP was in good form.  He too is a bit of a ham for pictures.  He knows he is the real deal.

Last but not least we visited Buffalo Trace Distillery.   We learned a lot about Bourbon from Freddie.   It’s a great tour, good bourbon and the grounds are beautiful.
